Team volunteering pledge
Continuing our 20th birthday team volunteering pledge, our videographer Dominic Cassidy recently returned to his local Repair Café in Camberley last month, but this time, behind the camera!
The Repair Cafe is a free service helping people repair everything from clothing and electrical items to watches and mechanical items, rather than throwing them away. Dom spent a few hours filming a video showing how the Repair Café works, what people can expect when they bring something along to be fixed and how they can get involved as a volunteer.
Dom shares his takeaways from the session...
"I spent a busy Saturday morning interviewing the trustees who run the Repair Café in Camberley, learning about its history, how it operates and the people that make it work.
“I approached them as I wanted to volunteer some of my free time for something that I believed in, but that was also a practical way to help the wider community.
“Volunteers either have a specific skill with electrical, mechanical or textile repairs which they have acquired through careers or hobbies, or are just enthusiastic, friendly people who help deal with visitors’ enquiries and processing the repairs.
“Not having the repair skills, it made sense to offer up the video skills that I normally employ for our clients at Brouha, and with the trustees’ backing, we are making a video to promote the Camberley Repair Café to people looking for somewhere that can help repairing items, explain how it works when visitors come in, and to show potential volunteers what it’s like to spend some time giving back with the Camberley Repair Café. Next month is International Repair Day and will be quite an occasion at the Camberley Repair Café.
“We hope to finish off the filming by gathering footage of the volunteers at work, the repairs taking place, and happy visitors receiving their repaired items. Watch this space!”
A great local initiative to be part of and we can't wait to see the final product!
