The Repair Cafe

Earlier this year, to mark Volunteers’ Week and our 20th birthday, the Brouha team pledged to donate 20 hours of our time to charitable organisations and causes close to each of our hearts.

Recently, Amy Goddard spent her time cooking meals for Swindon homeless charity Alternative Angels, and now it’s Dominic Cassidy's turn!

Dom volunteered at his local Repair Café, a free service helping people repair everything from clothing and electrical items to mechanical items and even watches, rather than throwing them away. Every time something is successfully fixed, they ring a bell to celebrate another item saved from landfill, going by the motto, “FIX IT – DON’T BIN IT.”

Fun fact: The Repair Café movement originated in the Netherlands and has since spread around the world, with Dom’s local café celebrating its second anniversary next month!

A few hours well spent, and Dom has already been asked to come back next month to shoot a video showing how Cafe Repair works for anyone thinking of coming along to get something repaired or considering volunteering their time.
